Tilia platyphyllos
Universality
The lime tree has been praised in history and folklore across Europe for centuries and continues to be valued for its medicinal properties. Symbolically, it is associated with comfort, friendship, love and protection and was also believed to inspire fairness and justice.
Lime cultivates peace and harmony in the heart and mind. It teaches that inner peace exists within you right now and can be accessed when you choose to accept things as they are. Peace in the outer world arrives when we make peace with ourselves.
Harbouring negative thoughts or energies creates disharmony between your heart and mind. A negative attitude drains your energy, increases negative thinking habits and can dispose you to reactionary behaviour. Exercising tolerance is difficult when you feel inadequate, insecure and ineffective. These deep-seated habits result from a sense of separation from self and others and ultimately the inability to love yourself and to receive love from others.
The illusion of being separate from those around us arises when we distinguish between self and others and identify with the differences. The inner conflict of feeling ‘separate’ is healed by unconditional love that allows peace to blossom from within. We rise above the dichotomy of separation and, through unification with the soul, our true self. This brings greater awareness of self in relationship to everything.
The realisation of oneness is achieved from a place of unity within, when we open our hearts to the light and love of our universal being, and thereby the ability to love and be loved. Love is interconnectedness, relatedness and oneness.
The realisation of oneness is the goal of all true spiritual practices. We develop universal love and compassion through harmlessness and selfless service to others, by doing the most loving thing in each situation, letting love determine the way.
Cultivate harmonious relationships. Transform feelings of separateness. Be at peace with yourself, your neighbours and your world.
